Gladys Ribinsky

Gladys A. Ribinsky (nee d’Eustachio), 98, of Long Beach Township, NJ, passed away Friday evening, March 27, 2020, peacefully at her home. The 13th of 14 children, born in Perth Amboy, NJ, Gladys resided in Edison, and summered on Long Beach Island before moving permanently to Long Beach Township, in 1977. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Charles A. Ribinksy in 2011. She is survived by her four daughters and two sons; Ann Ribinsky-Brown of Branchburg, NJ, Marie Kessel of Lacey Township, NJ, Carol Schoenberger and her husband Barry of Manahawkin, NJ, Nancy Stanek and her husband George of Somerset, NJ, Charles Jr. and his wife Carol of Beach Haven West, NJ, and Joseph and his wife Justine of Manahawkin, NJ. Gladys is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She worked for the Senior Outreach of St. Francis CommunityCenter for 27 years, she was an active member of Saint Francis Parish, where she served as a Eucharist Minister and longtimemember of the Parish Society of St. Francis Church.

Gladys loved to travel the world, from square dancing throughout Europe to visiting her brother in South America, and all over the United States with her husband Charles in their motorhome. While she was a woman of the world, in the end, there’s just no place like home. Gladys loved ‘her’ beach on 90th St, where she was a fixture in the summertime. You could hit a beach ball in any direction and find someone who n ot only knew her, but loved and admired her, as she had an everlasting positive impact on those who knew her.

Gladys was an outdoor woman, who enjoyed skiing and swimming, well into her 90’s. Age was nothing more than a number to her, as evident in her multiple New Jersey state championship swimming titles, National Senior Olympic swimming medals, and membership in the “Over the Hill Gang” Senior Skiing Club. Gladys was not only a planning committee member but also a charter participant of the annual St. Francis Super Plunge, now in its 17th year, raising charity funds to benefit the St. Francis Community Center & Southern Regional High School Swim Teams.  Gladys took great pride in plunging into the icy cold February waters of the Atlantic Ocean raising money for these worthy causes. Gladys always earned the award of the oldest participant, until her retirement from “the plunge”at 93 years of age. She took up painting in her later years.Gladys was a woman of many talents and passions. Her completive spirit never showed itself more than when she playeda game of RUMMIKUB.

Nothing a dip in the Ocean can't cure! Scraped your knee? Have the sniffles? Feeling under the weather?  Gladys believed that “Saltwater cures everything” and instilled that in all who gathered at her home for the endless days of summer.

We will miss her wisdom, humor, tenderness, compassion, understanding, patience and love, most of all, we will miss her.
