Eugenia Lee Gunning, formally of Trumbauersville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday June 27, 2021. She was known by her family and friends as Lee. Lee resided at Dock Woods for several years. Lee was the beloved wife of William Samuel Gunning and would have celebrated 50 years of marriage until his passing in 2001. She was born in Norristown, PA on July 17, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Myron and Elva (Brett) Given. Lee spent much of her childhood with her grandparents, William and Alma Brett, whom she adored. After marrying William Samuel Gunning, they settled in Eagleville, Pa and then moved to Chalfont, Pa. Lee was a housewife for most of her life. She raised five children: Cotti Gunning of Florida, Myron Gunning of Sellersville, Bona Gerhart of Trumbauersville, Theresa Bannon of Hatfield, and William Gunning II of Warrington. Upon William’s retirement, they moved to Manahawkin, NJ which was always their dream. After the wrath of hurricane Sandy in 2012, Lee moved in with her daughter and son-in- law in Trumbauersville where she lived for ten years until she moved into Dock Woods and lived there until recently. She loved fishing and sharing activities at the beach with her grandchildren. Lee also loved spending time with her family and raising her cat, Squirrelly. Lee is survived by Doug and Bona Gerhart of Trumbauersville, her daughter-in- law Marie Wenhold of Sellersville, Keith and Theresa Bannon of Hatfield, and a daughter-in-law Celeste Gunning of Warrington. Lee is preceded in death by her husband William Gunning, Cotti Gunning, Myron Gunning and William Gunning II. Lee is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Visiting will be on Saturday, July 10, 2021, from 11am until her funeral service, 12 noon, at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Interment will follow at Barnegat Memorial Cemetery, W. Bay Avenue, Barnegat, NJ 08005.
