Dr. Richard Goldstein

Dr. Richard “Dick” M. Goldstein, age 83, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2021 at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin, NJ. He fought until the very end against several complications from a recently diagnosed kidney disease.

Dick was born in Newport News, Virginia, on March 26, 1938, to Robert and Sylvia Goldstein. He graduated from the University of Connecticut, then attended Medical School at the University of Miami. He completed his pediatric residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and worked for 10 years in hospital medicine. He married Mary Beth “Cookie” Hupke on July 8, 1973, whom he met at the Jersey Shore. Together they opened a family practice which they ran in both Medford and Manahawkin, New Jersey. Dick resided in Harvey Cedars since 2001 and more recently at The Residence at Stafford in Manahawkin.

He loved sailing, water skiing, traveling to the Caribbean, and most of all soaking up the sun in any way possible. He poured his heart and soul into caring for his patients both in and out the office. He approached his career and his daily life the same way he cared for his patients and his family; relentlessly.

Dick is predeceased by his wife, Mary Beth “Cookie” Hupke Goldstein in 2018 and his brother, Michael Goldstein in 2019.

He is survived by his children Julie Goldstein (Mark Tesi), Amy (Jim) Justice and Tim Goldstein, his three grandsons Frankie Tesi, Charlie and Tommy Justice, his brother Jeff (Gerta) Goldstein, brother-in law Robert (Ann) Hupke, sisters-in-law Marilyn (Tom) Clifford, Margie (Nick) Novac and Jean Goldstein.

A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 2pm to 4pm with a Time of Remembrance, 3:30pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Rd, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.

At the request of the family, face masks will be required to attend services.
