Warren Evleth

Warren "Dick" Evleth, Poppy, passed away on August 4, 2023 at the age of 87, surrounded by those he loved most. He packed his bags, said his goodbyes, and went out west to join his fellow ski bums on the slopes.

A husband, father, grandfather, friend, Marine, skier, beach bum. He embodied optimism, gratitude, and kindness. Deemed the "eternal optimist," Poppy began each day proclaiming it was going to be a beautiful day. "It'll clear up!" he'd say as clouds churned over the island. Never a negative word.  Not once did you enter or leave a home without a hug. Every dinner began with a prayer or a token of gratitude. He was a simple man who lived in the present and found joy in the little things. A bagel, some ice cream, family, skiing and a walk on the beach. His mantra was “you just gotta have fun.” The Marine in him carried respect, responsibility, and grit. From his handshake to his stature, firm and sturdy.

Dick met his wife, Donna, while skiing in Aspen. A year and a half later, they were Mr. and Mrs. Dick’s business career in marketing and sales took them through various parts of our country, from Detroit to Texas and back to New Jersey. He retired from Lehbar-Friedman, Inc. in 2000 as the National Sales Director for “Nation’s Restaurant News and Drug Store News” publications. Dick loved the people business, and the people loved him back. He also loved his country. Upon graduating Syracuse University, Dick spent 4 years in the Marine Corps., serving his country from 1957 - 1961. Splitting their later years between the Jersey Shore and the Colorado mountains, he and his wife created not four, but eight walls within which they captured 62 years of memories that will be shared with generations to come.

He is survived by his wife Donna, their two children, Lisa and Randy, and four grandchildren, Erika, Kendall, Jack, and Luke.
