She was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy Schuback. Shirley was a graduate of Jules E. Mastbaum High School, Philadelphia, PA Class of 1959.
While attending Mastbaum High School, Shirley was a member of the marching band and held the front row position as the baton twirler. After high school Shirley held a full-time job at the legendary Rilling’s Bucks County Bakery. Shortly after that, at the age of 19, she met her future husband Edward S. Sysol, married in 1961 and had four children together where they resided in Juniata Park, Philadelphia, PA. Shirley and her family enjoyed taking summer vacations to Long Beach Island, New Jersey for many years and in 1981 they become permanent residents of the Garden State. Shirley was fortunate enough to find love for a second time and in 2005 and married Robert T. Paterson.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Edward S. Sysol (1996), her second husband Robert T. Paterson (2024) and her two brothers, William Schubach and Robert Schubach.
Shirley is survived by her brother, Donald Schuback, her four children; Edward Sysol (Victoria), Timothy Sysol (Michelle), Daniel Sysol (Yaxy), and Heather Width-Sysol (Sarah). She also leaves wonderful memories that will live on as the tree of life grows for her 7 grandchildren and her 2 great grandchildren, and many friends. Shirley loved to be on the sidelines and would often travel out of state to watch her children and grandchildren play sports.
Shirley LOVED spending time with her family, going to the beach collecting sea glass, cooking, shopping and living a healthy lifestyle where she made sure her daily 4:30am gym routine was followed. She was known for making her kids the “Shirley famous” egg sandwiches on Stroehmann white bread wrapped in tin foil. She loved watching some of her favorite sports teams, to include the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles. Shirley resided on Long Beach Island, but she was a true “Philly Girl.”
