Salvatore Paul Zullo, 90, of North Beach, Long Beach Island, NJ, died at home on February 5th surrounded by his loving family.

Sal was born on March 1st, 1926 in New York City to Nicoletta Diadati and Paolo Zullo and grew up in Brooklyn New York. He proudly served in the United States Navy, LCT Group 105 during World War II in the South Pacific from February 25th 1944 to June 8th 1946. After the war, he graduated from the University of Missouri in 1950 with degrees in Journalism & Advertising where he met  the love of his life Bonnie Lou Crane. Sal and Bonnie Lou were married on April 10th, 1950 and he embarked on a highly successful career as an apparel manufacturing executive with operations in New Jersey, New York City, Puerto Rico and Haiti.

Sal was proud of his Italian heritage and remained loyal to his roots in Brooklyn, Missouri and New Jersey. As a resident of Demarest New Jersey for over 40 years, he served on the Board of Education and coached Little League. He retired to Long Beach Island New Jersey where he enjoyed boating and never grew tired of  admiring beautiful sunsets over the bay. He and Bonnie had a gift for hospitality and happily shared their home at the shore with family and friends creating wonderful memories that will be cherished. Throughout his life, he was a proud American and loved to share his life’s journey especially his war time experiences with all he met.

Sal is survived by his beloved wife Bonnie Lou, and four children John Zullo, Paul Zullo, Laurie Totoro and husband Jim,  Dawn Tkach and husband Walter, seven grandchildren, Austin Knox, Kate Stolle  and husband Phil, Sean Zullo and wife Leslie, Amelia Tkach, Adrienne Totoro, Olivia Tkach, Devon Totoro and great granddaughter Annabel Stolle. He also leaves behind his nephews Robert and Michael Zullo, niece Lynn Turner and their families as well as many cousins and their families.

A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 2pm until his memorial service with Navy honors at 3:30pm from Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
