It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Salvatore J. LaPrete, who departed this life on May 9, 2025 at the age of 90. A loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend, Sal was the very embodiment of what it means to be a family man.
Born on November 23, 1934 in Jersey City, New Jersey, Sal grew up with strong values that would guide him throughout his life. He attended and graduated from Snyder High School. Answering the call to serve, he proudly joined the United States Army, where he served his country with honor and dedication. His time in the military shaped his character and as he welcomed his first born son overseas with his wife Helen, he deepened his commitment to duty, loyalty, and resilience. He led by example: working hard and always putting his family first. His love was steady and his greatest joy was found in the simple moments spent with those closest to him.
Sal is survived by his four children: Susan LaPrete, Vincent LaPrete and his wife Monika, Janet Andersen, Debra LaMantia and her husband Joseph, Mark LaPrete who sadly preceded him in death, and his wife Kathy. Sal was a devoted father whose love for his children was unconditional and unwavering. His legacy lives on through them, and through his ten grandchildren: Jaime-Leigh, Taylor, Emma, Jessica, Brooke, Tara, Toni, Stephen, Vicky and Michael in addition to his seven great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy.
In his career as Sales Manager for Prudential, he not only provided for his family but succeeded on all levels until his well-earned retirement. He raised his family in Kenilworth, New Jersey and was a devout Catholic as an active member of St. Theresa’s Parish, serving as an accomplished choir member, guitarist, high school CCD teacher, member of the Knights of Columbus and usher. As a community volunteer, Sal served as Boy Scout Leader and many other local committees.
Moving to Barnegat, New Jersey in 2003, Sal wasted no time becoming involved in his new parish as an usher, daily mass attendee and Knight, achieving the proud rank of Fourth Degree as a member of St. Mary’s Parish. He loved his friend-circle this created, especially gathering for their weekly Bagel Mondays after mass.
Sal enjoyed fishing, attending baseball games, and all genres of music - he truly had a fitting song lyric always at the ready. He was an avid reader and brilliant wordsmith who will be remembered as good for a witty joke for all! He shared this and more, not only with his family and friends, but with his community at The Residence in his later years. Loved by all, he shared his gifts of song, wit, and humor…the sweetest man in his Snoopy cap.
Truly, Sal’s proudest titles were Dad and Pop-Pop. His legacy will live on in the stories we tell, the traditions we carry forward, and the values he instilled in us. Though he may be gone from our sight, he will forever remain in our hearts. He always said he had the BEST family, but it was us who have been blessed with this most wonderful man.
