Salvatore A. Careri, age 89, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at home.
Born October 19, 1935 in Cliffside Park, NJ, he lived in Fort Lee, NJ prior to Manahawkin where he resided full-time since 2014. Sal served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Corporal. He was a NJ State Trooper prior to joining the Fort Lee Police Department where he became the Deputy Chief of Police, serving his community for 38 years before retiring in 1999. Sal loved visiting Atlantic City and supporting the NY Yankees and NY football Giants. His passion was his family where he would entertain them at the "Smiley House".
Sal is predeceased by his two brothers, Patsy and Joseph Careri, and his sister, Katherine DeMercurio.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joyce (McIndoe), his daughter Joanne Ciambrone & her significant other Donald Galdi, his son Salvatore Careri & his wife Denise, and his sister Marie Medaglia. He will be greatly missed by his five grandchildren: Jessica, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Salvatore, and Christina, and his five great grandchildren: Sadie, Will, Harper, Sawyer and Brody.
Mausoleum entombment and committal service will be held 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Madonna Cemetery & Mausoleum, 2070 Hoefleys Lane, Ft. Lee, NJ 07024.
