Richard J. Supple, 87, died peacefully on December 31, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness.
He was born in Lyndhurst in 1933 to Thecla and William Supple and lived in Rutherford for 35 years until retiring to a bayfront paradise in Manahawkin in 1999. He enjoyed fishing and boating with buddies and delighted in a tray of mussels, whenever possible. He loved animals and could not pass a dog without stopping to pet them. He was a Little League coach, involved father, owned numerous auto mechanic shops in the Bergen County area and was a die-hard Giants and Mets fan, and delighted in watching games with family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Anne (née Lofstedt), his sons Timothy, and his wife Jenny (née Coviello), and John, his sister Dorothy Lehmkuhl, his sister-in-law Mary Alma Supple (née Walsh), and his sister-in-law Catherine Gardner and her husband David. He is adored as “Grampy” to John, Michael, James and Jessica and beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dick is predeceased by his son Michael (1990), brother William (2018) and brother-in-law Robert Lehmkuhl (2013).
Richard was a parishioner of St. Mary's in Rutherford and, later, St Mary of the Pines in Manahawkin. He will be dearly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his memory to Padre Pio Foundation of America, 463 Main Street, Cromwell CT 06416. "Pray, Hope and Don't Worry".
DUE TO A PERSONAL ISSUE, THE FAMILY OF RICHARD SUPPLE REGRETS THAT THEY MUST CANCEL SERVICES SCHEDULED FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW. A MEMORIAL MASS WILL BE SCHEDULED AT A LATER DATE. THE FAMILY IS SADDENED AND REGRETS ANY INCONVENIENCE.
