Richard John Hartman, Sr. (81) went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 24, 2017.  He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Mary Alice. He resided in Barnegat, New Jersey at the time of his passing, however he was a long time resident of Surf City, New Jersey.

Rich, who was known by all as Pop, was born on January 27, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA.  He grew up on Long Beach Island where he met and fell in love with his “brown-eyed girl,” Mary Alice Torrell.  They had 7 children: Cecilia (Hartman) married to Edward Rieser, Richard Hartman married to Laurie, Nicholas Hartman married to Debora, Stephen Hartman married to Sandi, Noelita (Hartman) married to Thomas King, David Hartman, and Theresa (Hartman) married to Raymond Smith. Pop treasured his 24 grandchildren and 11 (with 2 more on the way) great grandchildren.

Rich graduated from Barnegat High School in 1954 and went on to proudly serve in the Navy as a Seabee for 4 years.  The things most important to him were his God, his family, and his country. He raised his family on Long Beach Island, and in addition to owning several businesses throughout his life, he co-owned and operated Hartman’s Amusement Center in Beach Haven, New Jersey.

A memorial gathering has been scheduled for December 9, 2017 from 11am - 1pm with a celebration of life service immediately following at Lighthouse Alliance Community Church, 2 Giffordtown Ln, Little Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey 08087. A private burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery on December 11, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to www.hopeforthewarriors.org or www.fisherhouse.org.

“You find out who your friends are
Somebody's gonna drop everything
Run out and crank up their car
Hit the gas get their fast
Never stop to think 'what's in it for me?' or 'it's way too far.'
They just show on up with their big old heart
You find out who you're friends are”
Find Out Who Your Friends Are by Tracy Lawrence

We all know that Pop was a one-of-a-kind friend to so many!
