Peter Evert

Peter Stewart Evert of North Beach Haven, formerly of Riverton (NJ), passed away peacefully at the age of 90 surrounded by his family on August 31, 2023.

Pete was predeceased by his wife Rita M. Evert (Moore), his parents W. Brooks & Dorothy Evert, and his twin sisters Constance Bring and Barbara Whitbred. Pete is survived by his children: daughter Cindy Neely (Stephen Neely), daughter Karen Janiszewski (Mark Janiszewski), and son Steve Evert (Sarah Evert), his grandchildren: Stephen and Kristin Neely, CJ and Bryan Janiszewski, Shane and Reese Evert, his great grandchildren: Parker and Sadie Neely, and many nieces and nephews.

Pete grew up sailing on the Delaware River and spent time in Beach Haven fishing and hunting with his grandfather as a teenager before graduating Palmyra High School in 1951 and then serving in the Navy during the Korean War.  After the war, Pete came home to work at RCA in Moorestown and soon married Rita Moore, the love of his life, and started their family in Riverton. Pete was a proud member of the Riverton Fire Company where he served as Chief from 1965 to 1971 and of the Twin City Rod and Gun Club in Burlington County. His friendships from here were very special to him.  Following his 10 or so years at RCA, Pete worked in the construction management field and ended his career proud of the many office buildings, churches and eventually the Tuckerton Seaport site that he helped get off the ground.

In 1965 Pete and Rita’s hard work afforded them the opportunity to purchase a second home in Spray Beach where they would spend much of their time and developed lifelong friends, many from the Spray Beach Yacht Club, where they joined in 1972. Pete served as Commodore of SBYC in 1985 and eventually lived year-round in Beach Haven Terrace.  His lovely wife Rita passed away in 2012 and he spent his remaining years surrounded by, and enjoying, his children, grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren and many friends.  He became affectionately known as “Pop” to many and lived his life to the fullest, proud of his family.  He will be sorely missed by all.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at the Spray Beach Yacht Club, 23rd Street and Long Beach Boulevard, Spray Beach, NJ 08008.  Visitation with the family will begin at 1 p.m. followed by Memorial Services at 2 p.m.
