Sonny was born October 3,1924 in Jersey City, NJ and went home to be with his Lord & Savior on August 31, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was raised in Ramsey before moving to Surf City in 1971.
While serving in the U.S. Army during World War ll, Sonny earned the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal & World War ll Victory Medal. He also received two Bronze Service Stars.
Sonny was a member of Manahawkin Baptist Church for over 50 years where he also served as Head Usher and Deacon. He was known by most there as the "Kissing Usher".
He is predeceased by his first wife Margie (Kuiper). Together they owned and operated Chambers Real Estate in Surf City, NJ for over 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Joyce (Giberson Stevenson), his
children Rev. George & Nancy Tissiere, Fran Tissiere Hibberd, Joyce Lynn ("Baby")
Stevenson, Sherrie ("Tootles") & George Hennessy, Tammy ("Sweets") Stevenson, Heidi ("Cutie Pie") & William Holt, Melissa ("Angel") Roque. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Krissy, Jennifer, Andrew, Jessica, Matthew, Johnny, Brianna & Georgia. And his four great grandchildren: Hannah, Anderson, Daphnie & Ciera.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 9am until his funeral service, 12pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
