Marie Thorne

Marie A. Thorne, 60, Barnegat, went to rest in the arms of Jesus at approximately 7:50 am, Monday, August 8, 2016, in Barnegat, NJ.

Marie was born December 27, 1955 in Staten Island, NY. She learned to be caring to the needs of others as the oldest sibling of the family as she often assisted them at home. Marie was a full time mom to her three sons, Gary, Eric and Brad. She often went above and beyond what was required to ensure each of her sons reached their full potential. Her strength and determination in the midst of adversity was unrivaled.

Eric was diagnosed with a brain tumor in infancy that led to both physical and mental disabilities. Marie never let Eric's obstacles define him and worked tirelessly to help him achieve in areas of academics, athletics with the Special Olympics, and friendships. She was always at his side even as he went to rest with Jesus at age 15.

She was an active member at Cedar Run Assembly of God Church and was passionate about her faith in Christ. Over the years she assisted in leadership of the Royal Rangers program, children's church and adult small groups as well as various community ministries including Jesus Fest with the Christian Churches of Southern Ocean County and Marriage Enrichment. Her passion was helping others to know the life-changing love of Jesus.

Marie is predeceased by parents Wilmont Tyler and Joan Irby, and son Eric P. Thorne.

She is survived by her husband Gary Thorne Sr., son Gary Thorne Jr. and his wife Stephanie, son Brad Thorne and his wife Colleen, grandchildren Sarah, Cameron, Lily, Jack and Marigold Thorne, her brother Tom Tyler and his wife Debbie, her sister Bet Garthaus and husband Paul, and her brother Ralph Tyler and his wife Barbara.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life and now heavenly home on Sunday, August 14, 2016, 6pm, at King of Kings Community Church located at 1000 North Main St. Manahawkin, NJ 08050.

The Thorne Family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the community for such an outpouring of love and kindness in this difficult time and the Barnegat Police Dept. for all their passionate service far and above the call of duty.
