Madeline J. Oberdick

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Madeline “June” Oberdick of Manahawkin, NJ on April 15, 2026, at the remarkable age of 92.

Madeline was born in Plainfield, NJ to Madelaine and James Cherego. She married the love of her life, Cornelius Oberdick on February 14, 1953, at which time, they moved to Colonia, NJ to raise a family. At retirement, they settled in Manahawkin, NJ where they spent the last 40 years. They spent 73 loving years together.

Madeline was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was affectionately known as “June” to her family and friends, Mom, Ma, Momma to her children and “Meems, “Meemaw” and Grandma to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a one-of-a-kind cook who hid secret spices from her children. She loved being surrounded by her loved ones and would remain at the front door waving continuously until the last car left the house. She was never one to turn down a family night of games, whether it was board games or card games, it was easy to see she was in her element. She was imperfectly perfect and she knew it.

Madeline was predeceased by her parents, James Cherego and Madalaine DeVico Cherego, as well as her son Michael.

She is survived by her brother Jimmy Cherego (Nancy), sister Rosemary, her loving children Thomas Oberdick (Janice), Richard Oberdick, Kathy Oberdick (Bob), Lori Edgar, Neil Oberdick and Lisa Oberdick, her 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will follow at a later date.
