Kenneth Cavanaugh

Kenneth Patrick Cavanaugh, 83, of Manahawkin, formerly of Jersey City passed away on Monday, September 11th surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, (downtown) Ken was the youngest of 8 children and is still often referred to as “the baby”.   He was an honorary graduate of Ferris High School in Downtown Jersey City and an avid reader.   For most of his career he was a driver for the Finest Trucking Company.   He spent the latter part of his career with the NJ Turnpike.

Ken retired in 1997 and moved to his summer home in Beach Haven West full time. He loved spending time with his beautiful wife Anna Marie, his family and friends.  He also enjoyed going to the beach, movies, bowling, was a familiar face at Shoprite, playing the lottery, Sunday gravy, going out to eat, vacations, the idea of spending his winters in Florida and napping with Sam (his beloved dog).  Ken was also a savvy negotiator, he once traded the beer in his hand for a dog and brought home Buttons, the new family dog, who dined on Italian delicacies & was loved for over 14 years.  He was a big fan of Frank Sinatra often referring to himself as “Old Blue Eyes”.   Also a big fan of Jeopardy, Ken could not be reached weeknights between 7-7:30p when it aired.  Many years after the finale, he became a big fan of Seinfeld calling it the best show on TV.   Ken loved jokes and almost never missed a Sunday Mass often repeating Monsignor Kens joke about Murphy.  Ken was a very religious person and attended the parish of St. Mary of the Pines Church.

He is predeceased by his parents, Sarah (Sadie) & Timothy Cavanaugh and all his brothers, James (Jimmy), Timothy (Tim), John (Jack), Eugene (Gene) and Robert (Bob) along with his sister Mary (just Mary).

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Anna Marie Cavanaugh (formerly Scibetta), his daughters Marie Traina and her husband Vincent, Sarah Kim Cavanaugh-Bond and her husband Stephen and his little dog Sam. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
