Kathryn G. Maccia, (nee Stapleton) 80, of Beach Haven West, a proud Newark, “Down Neck” Irish woman, and beloved wife, mother, and cherished Nana, passed away peacefully at her home on April 30, 2026, after a long and heroic battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), leaving behind a legacy of strength, devotion, and enduring love. She is predeceased by her loving parents Joseph and Mildred Stapleton and brother Joseph.
Kathryn is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years Joseph N. Maccia, and their two daughters, Janine Cannon (Michael) and Jamie Wanko (Jason) and her brother Ronald. In addition, she is survived by her seven grandchildren, Kiera, Kole, Kolin, Drew, Kylie, Avery, and Brynn. Her role as Nana brought her immeasurable joy; she delighted in every moment spent with her grandchildren, creating memories filled with laughter, stories, and unconditional love.
Always the life of the party, Kathie, as she was affectionately known, would always be the first one out on the dance floor, and we believe she is dancing her way around heaven. Beloved by everyone who met her, even in her toughest times, she could inspire those around her to look on the bright side of life.
Her family would like to thank Karen, her caretaker, for the love and support she gave her and to all of us, as well as the many hospice aides and nurses who became part of our family during the past four years. She leaves behind a family who will carry her memory forward in their hearts and honor her life through the love she so freely gave.
Visiting hours will take place on Sunday, 5/3/2026 from 1pm to 5pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, 5/4/2026, 11am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 4700 Long Beach Blvd., Brant Beach, NJ 08008. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in Kathryn’s memory to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia at https://give2.chop.edu
