Karen Lupyak, 61, of Surf City, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Southern Ocean Medical Center with her loving daughter and sister by her side.
Born Karen Lee DeGraw on August 23, 1956 to the late Jean and Gordy DeGraw of Dover, NJ. She graduated Dover HS in 1975 and lived in the area for many years before moving to Analomink, Pennsylvania.
Karen made a home in PA, taking care of Andy Dudek and working at Rose’s Country Deli. Her compassion for helping others made her a friend to all in need. A true animal lover, their home was complete with several dogs and cats. She would never turn any stray away.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law Ashley and Chad Gaynor, and the love of her life, her 4-year-old grandson, Liam Gordon Gaynor of Oak Ridge, NJ. Their home was her home, the Gaynor family extended her family.
Karen Lee is also survived by her sister, Kim DeGraw-Cole, nephews Brian & Jeff Cole of Manahawkin; cousins Bill, Lori, Sherrie Sheffield of West Palm Beach, Fl., special friends Rose, Bob and Marlene, as well as a host of cousins across the country.
Karen will be remembered with a phone to her ear listening to everyone’s problems, a crossword puzzle book in hand, her Lifetime movies, any drama in the news, and enjoying her recreation. She did her best to keep in touch with everyone in her life every day.
Her signature songs were Free Bird, Whiskey Lullaby and Movin’ Out. She was hoping to attend an Elton John Concert, during his final tour. A woman with a unique style of dress, a pied piper of sorts, with a big heart. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
As per Karen’s wishes, the family will conduct a private memorial service at a later date. Those who wish to honor her memory are asked to make a donation to a local animal shelter.
