John J. Alfano, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Southern Ocean Hospital, Meridian Hospice in Manahawkin, NJ. He was born in Newark, NJ lived, in Lyndhurst for 27 years, retired to Toms River and was a resident of Manahawkin, NJ since 2008. As snowbirds, John and his wife Frances would fly off to Jensen Beach, Florida where they resided for the winter season.
John worked for Local 164 IBEW for 30+ years before retiring in 2000. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, boating, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Frances Cecilia (nee D’Amore) Alfano; Devoted and loving father of John Joseph Alfano, Jr. and his wife Mariela, Natale Alfano and his wife Michele, daughter Michele Halliwell, and Francine Alfano-DeCasien and husband David; Dear brother of Marion Dellaria Lepore. He is adored as “Pop” to John Alfano III, Marissa Partridge, Gary Jayson Halliwell, Christopher Jon Halliwell, and Alexandra Doreen Alfano and beloved Uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a presence larger then life and he will be missed dearly by all.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in John’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org or Hackensack Meridian Health Hospice, 1340 Campus Parkway, Bldg C, Unit 4, Neptune, NJ 07753 .
Visiting hours will be Thursday, January 14, 2021, from 6pm to 8pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, January 15, 12:30pm, at St. Mary of the Pines Church, Manahawkin, NJ. Cremation will be private.
Due to Covid 19 guidelines, the funeral home is operating at restricted capacity. Please note that face masks and social distancing are required at all times for all in attendance of all services.
