On Sunday, April 5, 2026, Jeffrey Edward Bauer passed away at his home in Beach Haven West, Manahawkin, NJ. He was 79.

Jeff was born the day after Christmas 1946 in Brooklyn, NY, the eldest son of Alfred Bauer and Gertrude Bauer. He grew up primarily in River Vale, NJ and graduated from Pascack Valley High School in Hillsdale. Jeff spent the first half of his life in northern NJ. In the late 1980s, he relocated to Manahawkin, NJ near Long Beach Island.

Jeff married and began a family early in life. He was a union electrician, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 164, where he made many lifelong friends. In addition, for years he mentored future generations of electricians by serving as a teacher for Bergen County Vocational Technical School. Many of his students eventually became his coworkers and friends.

Jeff was devoted to his family. After raising his own children, Jeff took a particular interest in the lives of his nieces, his grandchildren, and their children. He had a well-earned reputation for being there to help them through the transition to adulthood and was a reliable guide for those he loved.

Anyone who really knew Jeff knew the things he loved doing best: Fishing and singing karaoke. For years Jeff fished almost daily, working on the Carolynn Ann III out of Viking Village at Barnegat Light. In the winter, he fished in the Florida Keys with a very close-knit group of friends from Matecumbe Resort in Islamorada, FL. Jeff served on the Board of Directors of Matecumbe and was instrumental in overseeing major electrical repairs after the resort was damaged by a hurricane.

Jeff loved to sing. Whenever he was in the Keys, he spent most nights singing at various venues with his friends and continued to sing while back home in NJ. Jeff’s choice of songs was heavy on the hits from the 1950s and 1960s. Some of his favorite songs to sing were “You're Sixteen” (Johnny Burnette), “Jambalaya on the Bayou” (Hank Williams), “North to Alaska” (Johnny Horton), and “The Ballad of John and Yoko (The Beatles), which he sang as a duet with his friend Nancy.

Jeff is survived by his son, Jeff and daughter-in-law Renee; daughter Tiffany; ex-wife Michele; sister Donna; brother Rick; cousin Donald and his family; nieces Stephanie, Jenna, Lauren, Kristen, and Lindsey and their families; grandchildren Julia, Dominick, Cassidy, Jaymi, Eric, and their families; and his special friend, Marianne.
