James Bates Jr.

James Raymond Bates Jr, of Montvale and Beach Haven Crest, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2016 with his family at his bedside.  James was born and raised in Springfield, Pa. on December 10, 1926.  James served his country in WWII in the Navy and contributed to the freedom for generations upon generations to experience.  James received his bachelor and master degrees and chose teaching as a career.  He loved swimming, biking and most of all hiking and being in the outdoors.  James was the beloved husband of Arleen Bates for 58 years and father of four sons; James III, Bruce, Scot and David Craig; grandfather to James IV, Dylan, Kolton, Madison and Noah.

A Memorial Gathering will take place on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 6pm until his Memorial Service, 8:30pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral home on 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Interment with military honors will take place Thursday, July 28, 1:30pm at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
