Howard T. Carter, II

Howard T. Carter, II, age 72, of Toms River, NJ passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

Born November 14, 1953 in Newark, NJ, he lived in Brick, NJ prior to Toms River where he resided since 2020. Prior to his retirement, Howard was a bus operator for New Jersey Transit for over 35 years. He started with the company when it was called Public Service, assisted by his father, Howard Carter, Sr., and his grandmother who worked for the company in the 1970’s. Prior to his illness, Howard was an avid golfer and loved to watch baseball especially with his grandson James and watch wheel of fortune with his granddaughter Ryleigh. He adored his family who were everything to him, especially his grandchildren who helped him to live beyond the years of his illness expectations. He was overjoyed being able to spend his remaining years living with his family, becoming a huge part of their lives and being able to express pride in his family every day.

Howard is predeceased by his parents Howard T. Carter, Sr. and Joan C. Shupel Dunn and his step-father James Dunn.

He is survived by his daughter Brittney Byron and her husband James, his grandchildren; James and Ryleigh Byron, his older sister Nerise Carter her children; Jaime and Louis Zampella, his younger brothers; Joseph Carter and his wife Joann, Jeffrey Carter and his wife Pixie and their son Jeffrey, his younger sister Allison McLay and her husband James and their five children; Jaime, Danielle, Stephen, Alex, and Jesse.

At the convenience of the family, all services were held privately.
