Gladys Ann Schmale

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Ann (Sartain) Schmale of Covington, Virginia, formerly of Edison, NJ, who left us peacefully on May 15, 2026.

Gladys was affectionately known to all that loved her as "Peachie". She was a loving mom and spent her life caring for others as a nurse. She was the kind of mother, aunt and sister that everyone loved to be around. She was full of fun and laughter. Whether it was throwing water balloons with the kids or putting cake icing on their noses, she was the life of the party. 

Gladys is predeceased by her parents, Victor and Gladys Sartain, and her brothers, John Sartainand his wife Geri, and Victor "Sonny" Sartain. She is survived by her loving son James Schmale and his wife Lisa and a granddaughter to be born in July. She is also survived by her sisters; Barbara Turi and her husband Pat, Diana Hnedak, and Judy Conrad, her brothers; Dennis Sartain and his wife Vera, and Robert Sartain and his wife Sharie as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved very much.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to everyone who has offered love, support and prayers during this very difficult time.

A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ in August.
