Francis Herbert Davis IV, aka Herb Davis, 71, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away on January 15, 2026.
Born July 28, 1954, to Audrey Miller Hicks and Francis H. Davis III.
Herb worked for several trucking companies over the years, including GenTech and W.R. Grace Trucking, which he especially enjoyed, before most recently working for United States Postal Service as a Tractor Trailer Driver and retiring in 2019. On September 26, 1981, he married Lillian Regan Davis with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. Together they raised two sons, Joshua Davis and Brett Davis.
Herb was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan who enjoyed coaching his sons’ sports teams when they were young. He was a selfless, simple man. He also served as the Captain at the Lincoln Hose Volunteer Fire Company in Keyport, NJ. He was a gifted storyteller and was known for his remarkable ability to recall routes and roads instantly from his years of truck driving.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Davis; his sons, Joshua Davis (Lyndsey) and Brett Davis (Jonna); and six grandchildren, Landon, Kinzley and Kallie Davis, and Nathan, Emmett and Beauden Davis. He was predeceased by his mother, Audrey Miller Hicks; his father, Francis H Davis III; his stepfather, Leroy Hicks; his brother Glenn Hicks; and his daughter, Rochelle. Herb will forever remain in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 3pm until his memorial service, 5:30pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
