Eugenio Galanti

Eugenio (Gino) M. Galanti

Age 86  Manahawkin

“Gino was his name and singing was his game”,

Gino, of Manahawkin, NJ, 86, passed away peacefully at Jersey Shore University Medical Center with his loving family at his side.

He was the beloved husband of Doris (nee Moran) for almost 64 years.  They were married on September 12, 1953, at St. Patrick’s church in Jersey City, NJ on the same day and year, as the late President and Jacqueline Kennedy were wed.  Gino was born on January 19, 1931 in Jersey City to the late Giovanni and Calogera (nee Civile) Galanti, who emigrated from Agrigento, Sicily, Italy.  Gino was predeceased in death by his loving stepmother, Concetta (Nellie) Galanti (nee Nostrame) and his dearest brother and sister-in-law, George and Millie Galanti.  Along with his wife Doris, he is survived by his sister Frances (Robert) Kiesnowski and brothers Salvatore Galanti and John Esposito, his three daughters and their spouses Michele (Michael) Pierro, Geraldine (Barry) Craft and Laura (Kevin) Stokker and one son, John Galanti.  Gino is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Nicole, Timothy, Michael, Elizabeth, Michele, Lauren, Gina, and Mallory and 2 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Cameron.  Many dear in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends are left to mourn his loss.

Gino was employed by Westinghouse in Jersey City for 15 years before pursuing his life’s passion in the entertainment business, inspired by hearing his brother George sing.  Gino worked for the Frank Bennett Orchestras under the stage name “Gino Valenti” for many years, singing at weddings, anniversaries, retirements, political events, bar/bat mitzvahs and numerous other occasions.  After his retirement, together with his son-in-law Michael, he continued to entertain at senior centers, nursing homes, and hospitals.  He has long been a standard at the Stafford Township Historical Society’s annual summer concert series, along with his grand-niece Kate Fallon.  Gino also entertained regularly for the lunch ministry at St. Mary’s of the Pines and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Manahawkin.  Upon meeting you, Gino would ask, “What’s your favorite Frank Sinatra song?” and proceed to sing it for you.  If you didn’t have one, he would tell you what it was and then treat you to that song.

Gino will be best remembered as one-of-a-kind, who did it his way.

Viewing will be held at the Maxwell - Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Rd., Manahawkin, NJ  08050 on July 2nd from 1pm to 5pm, with final services to be held at the funeral home. Arrangements by Fallon Funeral Home, Jersey City, NJ.
