It is with a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our father, Edwin G. Hackney, Jr.
Born in Summit, NJ, and raised in North Jersey, Ed was a longtime resident of Union, relocating to Beach Haven West in1981 until his passing. He married the love of his life Cathy (Kitty) and remained a loving, dedicated husband for nearly 50 years until her death in 2012.
Ed is survived by his three children, Edwin G. Hackney, III (Carol), Mae Merwin (Sean) & Bonnie Hackney (Cori) and his granddaughter Kyrstin Geloso, as well as his niece Arlene and nephew Bobby. Ed was predeceased by his younger sister Arlene Coates.
Ed was a Battalion Chief of the Union Fire Department until his retirement continuing to work as an electrician for his own business for over half of a century! He was a good husband, father, grandpop, friend and neighbor. A life well lived! Thank you, Dad, you will be missed! Atta-Boy.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 5pm to 8pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. A graveside service and interment will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, March 6 at St. Mary's Cemetery, 283 Beachview Avenue, Manahawkin, NJ 08050
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his memory to the New Jersey Fireman’s Home at www.njfh.org
