Donald Maute passed away at home on November 2, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jersey City and moved to Ocean County in 1969, living in Silverton, Bayville and most recently Manahawkin.

In his youth, Don was well known at the Jersey City CYO for his dancing skills and was also an avid swimmer and diver.  He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended Jersey City State Teachers College.  He worked a variety of jobs included government contracting and sales with his most recent employers being Delicious Orchards and Saturn of Toms River before his retirement in 2009.  Don was well known and recognized for his vast collection of suspenders.

He is predeceased by his parents, Ethel and Theodore, his step father, Harold, his step sister, Rita, and his brother, Robert.  Surviving are his wife of 51 years Mary “Marny”; son Donald Jr. and wife Cynthia; daughter Hope; and son Christopher and fiance Shanna.  Don was very proud of and loved his grandchildren: Donald III, Shawn, Grace, Nathaniel, Alexis, Parker, Spencer, Jadyn, Braylon, Anthony, and Aven.  Also surviving are his 2 older brothers, 6 sisters-in-law, 5 brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Sunday, November 6th, 1:00 pm, at the Holiday Inn, 151 Route 72W, Manahawkin.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association of America at donations.diabetes.org/Donate
