Deacon George L. Walker, 86 of Manahawkin, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Born in Hoboken, NJ, he lived in Rutherford, NJ prior to Manahawkin where he resided for 22 years. He was employed by Maxwell House Coffee for 41 years in Hoboken, NJ prior to his retirement. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Permanent Deacon, serving the parish community of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Brant Beach.

Deacon George is predeceased by his brothers James and John Walker and his sister Catherine Amato.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis M. Walker (nee Matarazzo), his four sons; George K., Thomas, Brian and Sean Walker, his four daughters; Karen Walker, Erin Polakowski, Regina Pennabere and Sheila Greenberg, his two brothers Bernard and Dennis Walker, his ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2016 from 4:30pm to 8:30pm and Monday, July 25, 10am to 11am at St Francis of Assisi Church, Brant Beach. Following visitation, 11am, a Mass of Christian Burial, will be celebrated. Interment follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 4700 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach Township, NJ 08008.
