It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cynthia Joyce Russomanno of Surf City, NJ on May 25, 2026 at the age of 78.
Cindy was born on May 14,1948 to George and Helen Dilmore of Pennsauken, NJ. As a child, she loved taking dance lessons and was a proud member of the National Honor Society and Pennettes along with some of her best friends.
She met the love of her life, Salvatore Russomanno, when they were just 13 years old. She peered through a classroom window while he was standing on top of a desk, a moment where opposites surely attracted. Shortly after graduating from Pennsauken High School in 1966, Salvatore proposed and the two were married. They moved to Medford, NJ and spent over 50 years together in the home they built and happily enjoyed their summers at the shore in Surf City, NJ. On September 28, 2025 they celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Cindy worked as a secretary at Reynold’s Tobacco until receiving news that their dreams had come true and they had been approved for adoption. She then chose to stay home and raise their two children, Sonya and Jonathan for most of their early childhood until returning to the workforce at Ferolie Foods in the late 1990s.
A lover of nature, Cindy frequently visited the animals at Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge with her children. She was known to take exceptional care of the local wildlife that would visit the kitchen door throughout the day with a special treat or leftovers from a meal.
She made Christmas, birthdays and holidays magical with her cookies, decorations and her award-winning creative designs for Halloween costumes. She found great joy in gardening, butterflies, flowers and summers in Surf City on Long Beach Island. Some of her best memories were made as a family in Surf City out on the family boat and hosting barbeques surrounded by friends and friends that became family; singing songs into the night on the deck under the stars. Most of all, she cherished her role as "Nana" to her grandchildren.
In her final months she was loved and taken care of by the wonderful staff at The Residence at Stafford in Manahawkin, NJ who treated Cindy like their own mother.
Cindy is survived by her loving husband, Salvatore Russomanno, daughter, Sonya Russomanno-Rizzo & fiancé Robert Young; son Jonathan Russomanno & wife Devon; grandchildren Wyatt, Andrew, Isabella, Gianna, Hannah, Meredith, Jacob & Robert; sister in law, Lucretia Betts; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Dilmore, brother, Gerald & sister in law Barbara Dilmore, and brother in law, Ken Betts.
A memorial service will be held in June to honor Cindy’s memory and will be announced here.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America at www.alzfdn.org and Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in Medford, NJ at www.cedarrun.org
