Courtney Allan Lister

Courtney A. Lister of Manahawkin, NJ went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2024.

He was born in Patterson, NJ and graduated from Toms River High School. He was baptized by Earl Comfort at Manahawkin Baptist Church in Manahawkin.

He began his carpentry career in the Spodafora Cabinet Shop. He also worked at Viking Yacht and from there became a union carpenter working many different jobs throughout NJ including the Atlantic City Library, The Pier and many of the casinos.

He had a heart for the homeless people in Atlantic City and often went under the boardwalk with blankets and food.

He opened the PetAgree pet store in Manahawkin. He sold that business and opened Exotic birds of PetAgree on the second floor of that building. Eventually he moved that business to Virginia.  When he returned from Virginia to Lakeshore Dr. in Manahawkin, he continued to sell parrots from his home. Eventually he sold Parrot Place franchises to people who wanted to have a home business selling parrots and he travelled all over the United States helping people start up their own Parrot Place home business. He was a volunteer for Stafford First Aid for 6 years and for two of those years he was Vice President of the squad.  He was also a volunteer in Southern Ocean Medical Center’s Emergency Room for 20 years.  

He attended Bayside Chapel in Barnegat for many years. He helped build their new addition and managed the parking lot.  He also liked to help people who had needs in the congregation. He loved boating on Barnegat Bay and boated from Point Pleasant to Atlantic City. He always took people out on the boat so that they could enjoy the water with him. He and his wife. Lou spent many hours together on the Barnegat Bay.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Louise Lister.   Also survived by his son Christopher Lister and his son and three children, and his sister Cynthia Casella and her three children and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Jennifer Johnson and her four children along with four great grandchildren. 

A Memorial service will be held at Bayside Chapel, 965 W. Bay Avenue, Barnegat, NJ on June 8, 2024.  Fellowship will begin at 11am with the service beginning at noon.
