Claire (McKenna) Grant, 93, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away at Southern Ocean Center on February 26 after a short illness.
Born in Cliffside Park, NJ she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Gorman) McKenna and sister of the late Raymond, John, and Vincent McKenna, and the twin of the late Helen Carapezzi.
Claire was the loving wife of Edmond F. Grant who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her beloved daughter, Claire Johns, and her granddaughter, Alyssa Claire Johns.
She is survived by her children: Edmond (Susan) Grant of Baden, Pennsylvania; Jacqueline (William) Black of Manahawkin, New Jersey, Cathleen (Charles) Battler of Beach Haven, New Jersey, Michael (Adonia) Grant of Frisco, Texas, and her son-in-law Steve Johns of Manahawkin, New Jersey. Claire is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, Ted Grant, Maureen Toppin, Maggy Porter, Amanda Toth, Daniel Black, Robert Ferringo, Steven Johns, Brian Battler, Daniel Battler, Michael Battler, McKenna Grant, Addison Grant and 17 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Claire was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Pines in Manahawkin. Her unwavering faith in God had sustained her throughout her long life.
Family was always the center of Claire’s life, and nothing gave her more joy than to have her children and grandchildren by her side. Her family knew never to call her when Jeopardy or Notre Dame football was on and, though her later years were challenged by health issues, she forever kept her quick Irish wit and humor. She will be missed by all who loved her.
