Charles E. Goganzer, Jr.

February 17, 1929 – October 16, 2023

Charles E. Goganzer, Jr., age 94, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023 at home.

Charlie was born and Philadelphia, PA. and resided in Manahawkin since 1946. At the age of 17, Charlie enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country for a 2-year enlistment period. At the age of 19, he married the love of his life, Marietta Cranmer. Together, they had three children: Chuck, Judy and Bob. Charlie worked two jobs for many years in order to provide for his family. His first job was as a carpenter, working for his wife’s family at H.G. Cranmer & Son. His second job was pumping gas at a local gas station.

Charlie built many homes on Long Beach Island as well as on the mainland including Stafford Township’s bowling alley. He also enjoyed carving seabirds, building birdhouses and many pieces of household furniture. He now has gone to be in the arms of his Lord Jesus, a place he had longed and was prepared to be. He will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Charlie is predeceased by his wife Marietta, his mother Mary Whepple, his brother, Robert and his son, Chuck.

He is survived by his daughter, Judith Griffin and his son Robert Goganzer. He is also survived by his six grandchildren; Edward, Tricia, Scott, Brian, Jamie, and Tammy, and his twelve great-grandchildren; Eddie, Jacob, Ashley, Dylan, Alex, Declan, Connor, Cade, Laney Jo, Sidney, Tristian and Beau, his great-great grandson Grayson, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to his dear friend Pete who helped with his every need, and to his great neighbors, Ray, Bunny, Chris, Stephanie and T.J. Also, a huge thank you to all of his nurses for such good care. He will be forever in our hearts.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 7pm to 9pm with a funeral service, 8:30pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a favorite animal shelter of choice.
