Angelica Velazquez

Angelica Velazquez (nee Maldonado), 87, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, passed away on November 29, 2016. Born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico on August 20th, 1929, she later moved to Brooklyn, New York at the age of 19. Upon completion of high school, she enrolled at Drake Business School to study secretarial practice.  She later married Isaias Velazquez, Jr. in 1953 and settled in Perth Amboy, NJ. She was the loving, caring mother to three daughters and grandmother to 5 grandchildren.  Her greatest joy was in raising her daughters to be strong, educated, independent women and see all of her grandchildren graduate from college and become successful professionals.

She worked as a Seamstress for Princeton Shirt Company in Perth Amboy, NJ before retiring to Little Egg Harbor with her husband, where she resided for over 25 years. A woman of strong faith, she was very active in St. Mary’s Catholic Community and various charismatic prayer groups.  In addition to the dedication and love to her own family, she was passionate about helping those who were less fortunate and believed in supporting financially disadvantaged families.  During her life she also traveled extensively, nationally and abroad, with her family and the church. In her free time Angelica enjoyed sewing and planting flowers.

She is predeceased by her parents Antonio Maldonado and Gregoria Trevino and her siblings Alejandro Maldonado, Santiago Maldonado, Amparo Maldonado, Modesto Maldonado, Laura Rivera, Delia Chico, Maria Isabel Rodriguez, and Elsa Noris Maldonado.

Angelica is survived by her husband, Isaias Velazquez, Jr., her daughters Ann DaCruz (Anita), Diane Cohn and Luz M. Ortiz (Lucy), and her grandchildren Raymond Ortiz II, Tiffanie D. Masi, Jason A. Ortiz, Matthew R. Cohn and Brandon J. DaCruz.  She is also survived by her siblings Antonio Maldonado, Georgina Maldonado, and Jose Elias Maldonado, her Sons-in-Law Raymond Ortiz, Sr., Joseph DaCruz and Mitchell Cohn, and her Grandson-in-Law Dean Masi.
