Simmone “Matt” J. Matkovich, age 81, of Manahawkin, passed away at home with his family by his side on Saturday, September 8, 2018.
Affectionately known as “Matt,” he was born in New York, NY, and later lived in West New York, NJ, prior to Manahawkin, where he and his wife, Barbara resided for the last 24 years. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, was a member of the American Legion Post #511 in Manahawkin and the Civic Association of Ocean Acres. Additionally, he worked as a part-time custodian for Stafford Township school district and was a member of “The Romeos.”
Matt is predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Matkovich, his brothers John, Ed, and Victor, and his sister Maryann.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara (nee Elko), his son Joseph Matkovich and wife Roseann, his daughter Linda Rodgers and husband David, his sister Frances Calantripo, his brother-in-law Harry Elko and wife Laura, his grandchildren Erik and Craig, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, 10:30am at St. Mary of the Pines Church, 100 Bishop Lane, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Interment will follow, 1pm, at St. Gertrude Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ 07067.
